TOP 5 TIPS

FOR WINTER CAR CARE

Winter is careening around the corner, so we must prepare for our seasonal car care the way we do in the summer months. With summer car care, the main thing we all remember is to check our coolant, but there are a few more things you need to keep in mind for the cold days ahead.

Checking your car at this time of year is not just about the seasonal change issue. Going out of town this holiday season for vacation? If so, you’ll want to make sure your car is road-worthy – especially if you have a family and little tots to tote around!

Keep these TOP 5 WINTER CAR CARE TIPS from owner Ted Bishop, on your radar:

1 – Check your car’s fluids. Adding new coolant is a must this time of year, or you may need to get the cooling system flushed.

2 – Checking the HEATER SERVICE is important. The heater core should be checked as well.

3 – Have a SUSPENSION INSPECTION done. (May want to do this w/ your break inspection – see # 5).

4 – Do a TIRE INSPECTION, which includes tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. You may need to get new tires, or just put some new air in them. Remember how the hot pavement of summer roads will EXPAND your tires just as in the winter time, it reduces the air).

A good tire inspection ensures you have no holes, no leaks and that your tire tread is good. Also, you may want to see if you need to get your tires rotated. In the winter, we must sometimes deal with straddling and driving around all the pot holes that the winter snow and salt trucks cause, so you may have a tiny leak in one of your tires from hitting a past pot hole. Having your tires checked before a road trip is ideal then!

5 – A BREAK INSPECTION is also a good thing to have on your list for winter care. If you are driving a long distance for your holiday break, you need to ensure your breaks are operating at peak level performance.
